I want long healthy hair and I want it NOW!

I am sure I am not the only person in the world who has suffered from hair envy from watching other youtube videos or following other blogs. As human beings I think that it's only natural for us to want what other people have. Early on in my natural hair journey this was a real problem for me and I wanted long healthy hair fast and my impatience lend to breakage and stress. Now, I'm comfortable with my hair length and the pace it is growing at my hair envy seems to have lessened.

This post is just to encourage my readers that healthy hair or long hair does not happen overnight. It's the same with weightloss, it doesnt happen overnight. Unless you go on the crash diets which shed the pounds fast which later re-emerge the next month or if your unlucky the following week! Healthy hair is a process over some months, years even decades.

However, there are somethings that you can do to make the journey smoother. The first thing is water

Yep, I said it, most people have a love or hate relationship with water. Our bodies are made up of over 80% water and its a great way to hydrate the skin and the hair. Celebrities are always swearing by the beneficial factors of water and I myself can attest to those same beneficial factors. One of my cousins suffered from spot marks on his face and I told him that the best way to get rid of it was to drink 2litres of water everyday for 1month and you WILL see noticable changes. Low and behold he did witness a clearing up in his skin. I always tells my friends and family, your hair is an extension of your face, give your hair the same love and your face and you will see noticeable changes.

Supposedly, there are foods that are said to be benefical for healthy hair. Here's a list of  a few of  them.

Salmon is one of the best foods for healthy hair. Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which protect the scalp drying as well as Vitamin B-12 and iron. Vegetarians can add 2 tablespoon of chia seed or flax seed into their foods to get omega-fatty acids from plant sources

Carrots are rich in vitamin A. Vitamin A is ideal for maintaining a healthy scalp and great for our eyes! Added bonus.

Eggs are an excellent source of high biological protein, biotin and vitamin B-12, all elements important in maintaining healthy hair. Unlike some food, preparation of eggs does not seem to make a difference – the benefits are the same so enjoy scrambled, hard boiled or over-easy any time of the day

Beans are full of protein. Protein is important for healthy hair growth. Beans are also rich in iron, zinc and biotin. Biotin deficiency causes brittle hair

Green Leaf Vegetables
Dark green vegetables like spinach, kale, and broccoli are high in vitamin A and C, which are necessary for the production of sebum, making them excellent foods for healthy hair. Sebum is an oily substance secreted by hair follicles and is essential for the natural hair growth and shine.

Final thought, last night I attend my first ever Natural Hair Meet Up in London at the Beautiful Textures Launch and it was amazing! I met up earlier with Fiona from LoveYourTresses an old school friend and we had such a good time chatting before hand and then making our way over to the event. It's funny how hair can bring people together. Here is a little photo I took  of us and I will put the rest up a bit later.
